Ultimate Running Playlist

Ultimate Running Playlist

It has been becoming more frequent that I listen to music while I go for my runs. Generally, I enjoy a no-fuss workout, just putting on my running outfit, grabbing my sunglasses and out the door. But when you increase your miles you need things like […]

Another 5k!

Another 5k!

This past Saturday I did another 5k! Proud to be a plant-based runner. 🙂 And it was a beautiful day on Sunday here in Miami.

A Very Green Smoothie

A Very Green Smoothie

I finally made it to whole foods this afternoon, and I was able to pick up my Spirulina powder (I missed you!) and a few other of my favorite items that I have been out of for a while. I swear by Spirulina. It’s truly a magical green powder that is a serving size of only a teaspoon. How easy is that to add to your recipes? It has even be said to be the most nutritious food source in the world.

Wellness Mama talks a little bit about it’s benefits, here.

Obviously when I came home I had to make a green smoothie so I could get my Spirulina fix!

Glowing Green Smoothie

  • Servings: 1-2
  • Difficulty: easy peazy
  • Print

  • ~5 oz Green juice [I used a store bought cold-pressed mixture; I recommend juicing cucumber, spinach, or kale if you have a juicer]
  • ~5 oz coconut water
  • 1 tsp spirulina powder
  • 1 frozen or fresh banana
  • ~1/2 cup frozen fruit [I used peaches and strawberries here]
  • 1 small date
  • ~1 tbsp raw vanilla plant-protein powder

And just because, here is a picture of my breakfast this morning. Tofu, garbanzo beans, leftover mashed potatoes, cooked with onions, garlic powder, salt, and pepper with some avocado and lettuce. That was pretty delicious too. 🙂

MIA again..but not Forgotten

MIA again..but not Forgotten

Every time school starts up I tend to forget about my good friend WordPress. Not only that, I decided to take on a part time job which just recently opened this week, so we have been doing a lot of training. I have been busy […]

6 Weeks till’ Half Marathon!

6 Weeks till’ Half Marathon!

phot1o 1I’m not going to lie.. I make really good smoothie bowls!

ph32oto 2Showing off my new socks..but they really are not ideal for a long run. Need better cushioning!

photo22 3Just a photo op before I embarked on my 10 miler earlier tonight!

ph11oto 4My before and after my long run.

I was excited and then I felt exhausted, lol. I have not run 10 miles in a long time–at least 5 months. I kept a good pace though and finished in 1:43ish. I thought that was pretty damn good considering the outcome of some of my long runs recently. Right now I feel like I did after my first half marathon. Yikes!

Tomorrow marks 6 weeks until my half marathon on November 10. I am committing 100% to my training and healthy eating for the next 6 weeks. I may not eat veggies all day everyday, but I’ll be avoiding processed foods. This is not something I eat too much of anyway, but I will be eliminating things such as bread, nut butters, french fries (my favorite), and certain soy products. The last time I had bread was literally over a week ago, but I have to make clear guidelines so that I am able to stick to a plan. Today I dug into the crunchy peanut butter jar knowing I won’t be having any for 6 weeks ;).

While committing to this for 6 weeks, I expect to improve my runs, feel better, sleep better, and lose fat. All muy importante for a race coming up. Wish me luck!

The 4 Criteria of a Run

The 4 Criteria of a Run

My 9 mile run this morning… not the best. = Nevertheless, I still logged in 9 miles! I refused to cut any miles, even if I had to walk a good portion of my workout (took me about 1 hour and 49 minutes!). Matter of […]

Note to self..

Note to self..

Don’t go for an 8 miler past 10AM when it is 90 degrees and sunny outside.

It’s the worst when you have the strength in your legs and in your heart & lungs to run harder and longer but the heat literally feels like it is pulling at you. I honestly don’t know what I was thinking going for a run after 9:30AM. I knew it was risky. I just needed an outdoor run! Can’t wait for the fall.

What I would do to run and hike at a place like this…

MOTIVATED

MOTIVATED

I am feeling extra ambitious and motivated today. Last night I planned out a 5-day detox which I plan to stick to entirely. Ran 5 miles at the gym in less than 50 minutes and then did a decent back and triceps workout. MOTIVATED!! :] […]
